Happy Friday loves!  Today marks the start of a new series called Finding You.  For quite some time, I have had this longing to share more about life experiences with you all.  Let’s face it, life can be challenging and down right hard at times.  Don’t we wish that everything could be sunshine, lollipops, rainbows and fluffy bunnies.  You definitely can’t control everything that happens to you.  But, you can control how you react to it.  Your attitude is absolutely everything.  Through my experiences I’ve certainly found that no matter what life throws at you, it’s up to you in how you ultimately respond and move forward.  Guess, what, I am still learning this and we all will through this journey called life.  Now, I am by no means a guru who has always done everything perfectly.  Do I strive for perfection?  Yes and sometimes to a fault.  What I am learning is how to implement strategies in how to make the best of the life I have been given.  With all that being said, it leads me to this new series, Finding You.

The Journey

Finding You will be a post coming your way each Friday.  It will be a variety of life experiences, motivations, and strategies to helping you become a better you.  As mentioned, I am still on this journey and my hope is that we can share experiences alongside one another.  So let’s get started.

Slow Down

Alarm clock.  Get dressed.  Hit the grind.  Errands.  Home to-do list.  Dinner.  Sleep.  Repeat.  Sound familiar?  Okay, so maybe your routine might be in a different order.  However, have you ever found yourself in what feels like the movie Groundhog day{worst movie ever in my book hah!}?  And, everything is just a vicious cycle that will not end?  Whether your in college, working a full time corporate job or a full time stay at home mom, this happens.  It’s called LIFE.  However, what isn’t good is not slowing down and taking time out.  Of course you’re not going to just quit going to school, stop working or tell your kids to just manage themselves.  But, what you can do is carve out time to breathe.  Even if it’s only five minutes a day, find it.  Go take a walk.  Call a family member or a friend.  Sip a cup of tea or coffee{just don’t over do it with caffeine}.  Listen to music or watch a motivational video.  Read a chapter from a book.  Pet your dog or one you meet in the park!  The little guy you see pictured here is named Jack.  I’ve ran into him twice now and this time I stopped to spend some time with him.  You would have thought we were long lost best friends.  It’s as if he started hugging me!  I think his owner Roger, got a little nervous that he might be spending a little too much time with me!  In all seriousness, I felt the greatest sense of happiness after hanging out with Jack.  This reminded me that it’s okay to simply slow down and enjoy what’s in the moment as well.  Also, that perhaps I need to consider getting a dog later this year!

Keep it simple

In closing, don’t make this another task that you have to do.  Also, don’t try to incorporate too many changes at once or it just won’t happen.  How do I know this?  Um well, I mentioned I push for perfectionism which makes me also feel like I need to do everything.  And yea well that just causes burn out and then one just stops altogether.  Just keep it simple.  Choose one thing you can do to slow down.  If you do it daily that’s great.  But if at first it’s a couple times a week, that’s a win.  The goal is to do this for one month and you should establish a new, healthy habit of slowing down.
